July 13, 2015
The Office of Electronic Communications, Poland’s telecommunications regulatory body, today announced the award of MUX 8, a new broadcast multiplex frequency license, to Emitel Sp. z.o.o. Under the terms of the award, Emitel will hold the right to distribute TV programming over the frequency band on a free-to-air basis for a period of 15 years.
The new multiplex will offer up to seven new television channels, three of which will be produced by Telewizja Polska, the Polish national broadcaster. The process of allocating the remaining four channels is ongoing. With the addition of MUX 8, Emitel will operate a total of five multiplexes, broadcasting 31 free-to-air channels and seven pay channels across Poland. MUX 8 operations are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Emitel distributes television and radio signals nationwide in Poland under long-term contracts with television and radio broadcasters. Emitel is also the largest independent tower operator for mobile communications in Poland. The company owns approximately 350 broadcast towers.
